Social interaction types

Every Student that enrolls in a Course joins one of many Course Groups (like a Cohort). All the interaction that happens in that group stays only in that group – other Course Groups don’t have access to it. There are different configurations for Course Groups based on 4 basic types:

  • Individual Course
  • Course with Coach
  • Course with Group
  • Course with Friend

These can be applied to Courses and mixed together (e.g. a Course Administrator can configure a Course to be with “Coach and Group” or “Coach and Friend”). Some of the configurations will not be possible based on the course type.

Individual Course

In the Course Group there is just one person – the Student. This is the simplest type of social interaction – no interaction. All the answers to the questions are visible just to that Student and Course Administrator / Coordinator, but because they are not a part of that Course Group they don’t have a way to interact with Student’s answers.

Course with Coach

In the Course Group there are two people – Student and Coach. All answers to questions are visible to both of them and they are notified about new answers. Coach is manually assigned to the Student by the Course Coordinator – this can be done before the Course starts or even after that, when the Student starts interacting with the content.

Course with Group

In the Course Group there are more Students. All conversations and messages are visible to all Course Group members. The Course Group is formed by the Course Coordinator before the Course starts with the Students that enrolled in that Course.

Course with Friend

In the Course Group there is just one person – the Student. A friend is chosen by a Student person that is notified about Student’s progress by email. There is no direct in-system interaction between them. The friend could be encouraged to follow up the conversation with Student by email or other channels of communication. This option is dedicated to the “1-2-3 Course” type, but can also be used in “Standard Course”.

Advanced feature: The “Social interaction types” configuration is flexible. Course Administrator sets the default way this interaction will happen but this can be overwritten for a particular Course Group by Course Coordinator. Practically it means that even in the Individual Course he can assign a Coach to the particular Student. The flexibility doesn’t stop there. The Course Coordinator can even assign two Coaches to one student. You may think about the “Social interaction type” setting as a go-to scenario but remember it can be altered if there is a need.
